BAIC Brand History and Milestones

BAIC Group was founded in 1958 by the Chinese government as a state-owned enterprise. The Beijing Municipal Government remains the owner of the company, which originally introduced China’s first self-developed sedan known as the Zhonghua.

In 2010 BAIC Motor Co., Ltd. was officially established as a subsidiary of BAIC Group. That same year the group acquired intellectual property rights and assets of Saab Automobile to support its global expansion plans.

BAIC Motor focuses on passenger cars under the Senova brand and microvans under the Weiwang brand. Daimler AG acquired a 12 percent stake in BAIC Motor in November 2013.

BAIC Motor Co., Ltd. introduced its distinct logo in 2010 at the time of its founding and the Saab IP acquisition. This redesign marked the separation between the parent BAIC Group and its new passenger-vehicle subsidiary. The BAIC car logo has been used continuously since the corporate restructuring.
  • Design: Modern typography with symbolic brand elements
  • Colors: Not specified in available records
  • Changes: New logo created to differentiate the 2010 subsidiary from the parent group
  • Context: Coincides with the Saab asset acquisition and establishment of BAIC Motor Co., Ltd.

The 2010 logo change represents modernization and clearer distinction between BAIC Group and BAIC Motor. This evolution in visual identity aligns with the company’s expansion into passenger cars and the 2013 Daimler investment that occurred under the new BAIC Motor emblem.
