Brand History

Spirra is a niche Korean sports car emphasizing agility, power, and precision. The brand name comes from the Latin word Spira meaning coil or spiral which evokes dynamic movement. It incorporated the Siberian tiger South Korea’s national animal as a central symbol of strength and spiritual protection.

The concept behind the vehicle first appeared in the 1990s through the work of Han-chul Kim. In 2000 the original concept was displayed as the PS-II at the Seoul Motor Show. The design received its current name in 2004 and was exhibited as Spirra at the Beijing Motor Show.

Oullim Motors was officially co-founded in 2007 by Han-chul Kim a former Ssangyong Motors designer who created the Spirra logo and Dong-hyuk Park who served as CEO of Oullim Networks. Oullim Motors operated as a subsidiary of Oullim Networks with headquarters in Yangjae-dong Seoul and production based in Kyunggi-do province.

Production officially began in 2008 under Oullim Motors marking the arrival of South Korea’s first supercar. The manufacturer later continued operations under Proto Motors after Oullim restructuring. International sales reached markets including China the UAE Malaysia and the Netherlands. Production ran continuously from 2008 until 2017 when it ended with the dissolution of Proto Motors.

Spirra Logo Evolution

2004 – 2017: Tiger Triangle

Spirra logo

The Spirra logo was introduced in 2004 at the time of the name change from PS-II to Spirra and remained completely unchanged throughout the entire production period. Han-chul Kim designed the emblem drawing on national symbolism to create a distinctive sports car badge.

  • Design: An approximately 70 percent complete upside-down triangle that is open on one side with a roaring Siberian tiger head placed centrally
  • Colors: Black outline combined with white fill for the triangular shape and black for all text and tiger details
  • Changes: No redesign occurred during the full 2004-2017 period
  • Context: The tiger was deliberately selected because it is South Korea’s national animal representing power and strength while the name origin from Latin Spira reinforced themes of dynamic movement

This single Spirra logo design served as the Spirra car logo across all models including the Spirra Turbo Spirra S and Spirra EX. The Spirra symbol delivered a clear message of performance through its combination of aggressive tiger imagery and geometric triangular form. Many enthusiasts still seek the Spirra emblem for reference because of its consistent use during the brand’s active years.

The Spirra badge features a tiger whose mane flows into pointed black spikes that break the edge of the triangle creating visual energy appropriate for a high-performance sports car. This design choice gave the Spirra car symbol immediate recognizability in the automotive world during its decade of production.

Visitors interested in historic automotive branding often look for Spirra logo images to study how Korean sports car makers expressed national identity through design. The unchanging nature of the logo from introduction to the end of manufacturing makes it a clear case study in consistent brand identity.
