M-Hero History
M-Hero was established in 2022 within Dongfeng Motor Group, a listed company under the larger Dongfeng Motor Corporation. It specializes in body-on-frame, high-performance off-road electric vehicles, and it builds both full electric vehicles and extended-range electric vehicles for the civilian market.
The brand name comes from the Chinese name Mengshi (猛士), which means “fierce warrior”. It is inherited from Dongfeng’s military vehicle line. That line is a separate entity under Dongfeng, and M-Hero is the consumer brand.
In 2023 M-Hero unveiled its first production model, the M-Hero 917, a full-size luxury off-road SUV offered as an electric vehicle and as an extended-range version. Other models include the M817 and the X700. In September 2025 Dongfeng, the government of Xiangyang and Dongfeng Nissan signed an agreement to form a joint venture, M-Hero Automotive Technology (Xiangyang). It shares the M-Hero brand and develops lightweight off-road SUVs together with Huawei.
