Hycan Brand History
Hycan was established as an innovative smart EV brand focused on premium intelligent electric vehicles. The company was geographically based in Guangzhou, China. It operated from 2019 until it became substantially defunct by January 2025.
Brand Timeline and Ownership Evolution
On April 10 2018 GAC Group, GAC New Energy later known as GAC Aion, and NIO Inc. established the joint venture GAC-NIO New Energy Technology Co. Ltd. The brand was officially announced on April 1 2019 together with an electric SUV. First concept vehicles including Concept-S and Concept-M were revealed in 2019.
In early 2021 Guangdong Pearl River Investment Management Group became the largest shareholder with a 68.56 percent stake while NIOs ownership was diluted to 4.5 percent. The company was officially renamed from GAC-NIO to Hycan Automobile Technology Co. Ltd. in 2021. NIO fully withdrew as a shareholder in 2022. In 2023 the company produced 2856 vehicles. On January 11 2025 GAC Group announced resolution of employee placement with GAC Aion assuming after-sales responsibility confirming the brand as substantially defunct.
Key people involved included founder Zhang Fangyou and CEO Yin Yang.
Hycan Logo Evolution
2019 – 2025: Original Hycan Logo

- Design: Modern minimalist style with stylized typography spelling Hycan
- Colors: Not specified in available records
- Changes: No redesign occurred despite ownership transitions
- Context: Created for the new EV joint venture emphasizing intelligence and modernity accompanying the shift from GAC-NIO to standalone Hycan consumer brand
The Hycan car logo featured clean geometric forms typical of contemporary Chinese EV branding. This design reinforced the brands positioning in the premium intelligent EV segment. The emblem was used consistently from the first production model through the final vehicle launch.
All vehicle launches took place under the Hycan brand and its 2019-2025 logo. The first production model was the Hycan 007 mid-size electric SUV released in 2020. This was followed by the Hycan Z03 subcompact electric crossover in 2021 the Hycan A06 mid-size electric sedan in 2022 and the Hycan V09 electric MPV in 2023.
Every model incorporated the Little Can AI voice assistant technology inspired by NIOs NOMI which strengthened the intelligent-mobility identity during the single logo era. The Hycan symbol remained unchanged through the transition to majority ownership by Pearl River Investment and until the brands cessation.
Users interested in visual assets can find the Hycan logo png in high resolution showing the refined vector-style execution. The Hycan car symbol was documented in official brand materials released on January 3 2023 though it was likely created at the time of the 2019 launch. A Hycan logo transparent background version allows for easy reference and download purposes.
The Hycan logo hd files preserve the minimalist aesthetic that defined the brand throughout its short history. Documentation of the Hycan logo evolution shows a single consistent design with no documented changes across ownership shifts from the original GAC-NIO partnership through full state-backed ownership.
Brand Legacy
Hycan leaves behind a brief but distinct contribution to Chinas electric vehicle market as a brand born from collaboration between established manufacturers. Its focus on AI-enhanced mobility through the Little Can assistant helped shape expectations for intelligent features in subsequent Chinese EV offerings. After-sales support for existing owners has been transferred to GAC Aion following the brands closure in 2025.
