XEV Logo: Meaning and History

The XEV logo is a sky-blue X built from two curved chevrons. XEV is an Italian-Hong Kong maker of electric microcars, headquartered in Hong Kong with a styling office in Turin, Italy.

The XEV emblem is a bright sky-blue X. Its two halves are rounded chevrons, one pointing up and one pointing down, that meet in the middle and leave a clear gap between them. The shape is a flat, simple design with no outline. In the full wordmark the letters EV follow the X in white, so on a white background only the blue X shows.

What does XEV stand for

The name is short for X-Electrical Vehicle or Xianggang Electric Vehicle, where Xianggang is the Chinese name for Hong Kong. The X in the logo is the first letter of that name, drawn as a symbol.

The XEV logo history is short. The current XEV logo is the blue X with the EV letters beside it, and the X is the same two-chevron mark that serves as the standalone emblem.

XEV History

XEV Ltd began in 2016 when the Chinese engineer and entrepreneur Tik Lou brought together a team that included designers from the FCA group. The startup chose Hong Kong as its headquarters and set up a styling office in Turin. It focused on a single electric microcar with parts made on a 3D printer, and it raised its first funding through European funds.

In 2019 the company announced that the car would be built at a newly acquired plant in Shanghai. A pre-production car was shown in December 2019, with series production planned for August 2020 if crowdfunding raised the money. The final model debuted in September 2021, the same month it entered production and appeared at the IAA show in Munich.

In April 2024 XEV employees said on the company’s social media account that XEV had been insolvent since early 2024 and could not pay staff and suppliers. The company denied these claims.
