Brand History
Tianye originated from a company established in 1949 as Baoding Automobile Repair Shop in Hebei Province, China. By the early 1970s it began manufacturing a local variant of the BJ130 light truck. In 1985 the company was renamed Baoding Automobile Factory and officially launched the Tianye brand.
In 1992 the company was renamed Hebei Zhongxing Automobile Manufacturing while continuing to use the Tianye brand. The period from 1992 to 1996 saw strong sales and growth. By 1997 the company had invested 500 million yuan in a new factory with an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles. However it faced severe financial difficulties in the late 1990s due to debt and was operating at only 10 percent capacity by 1999.

Tianye Logo Evolution
1985–1999: Tianye Brand Period

The Tianye logo history shows inconsistent and unsystematic application of multiple badges throughout the brand existence. Vehicles featured different combinations of symbols on their grilles with no clear hierarchy established.
- Design: Mirrored Z badge as primary symbol along with Chinese handwriting Tianye characters and Latin Tianye script
- Colors: Not specified in historical records
- Changes: No formal redesign events documented during the entire period
- Context: Used on pickup trucks and SUVs with some vehicles showing only the mirrored Z logo while others combined it with Chinese or Latin badges
The mirrored Z logo meaning was carried forward when the brand ended in 1999. This Tianye symbol was adopted as the official badge for the successor Zhongxing brand after the Brilliance acquisition. The Tianye emblem therefore survived the company restructuring even though the Tianye name itself was discontinued.
