Mastretta History
Mastretta was founded in 1987 by Daniel Mastretta and Carlos Mastretta in Mexico City. The brothers initially directed the company toward bus and transportation design and engineering. This early focus established the foundation for the brand’s later move into automotive sports car production.
In the 1990s the company developed kit cars through subsidiary brands Tecnoidea and Unediseño. The first kit-car, the Unediseño-Mastretta MXA, appeared in 1995. Between 2007 and 2010 the team worked on the Mastretta MXT project, marking a clear transition toward international commercial sports car production.
The 2011 release of the Mastretta MXT brought international attention and highlighted the capabilities of Mexican automotive engineering. The company remained active in automotive design from its founding in 1987 until MXT production ended in 2014.
Mastretta Logo Evolution
1987–2008: First Logo Era

The first Mastretta logo was introduced at the time of the company’s founding and remained in use until 2008. It appeared throughout the initial bus and transport phase as well as the early kit-car period. The design directly incorporated elements that would continue in the updated version.
- Design: Triangular crest with arched top and pointed bottom forming a shield shape
- Colors: Green left stripe, white center stripe, red right stripe drawn from the Mexican flag
- Changes: Checker pattern filled the lower half of the crest
- Context: Represented the brand during its transition from transportation engineering toward sports car development
The Mastretta car logo from this period used thin-stroke sans-serif lettering for the brand name placed across the top center of the crest. The overall form followed traditional automotive emblem styling while emphasizing national identity. This version of the Mastretta symbol established the core visual language still seen today.
2008–present: Current Logo Era

A refined version of the Mastretta logo was introduced in 2008 and continues to be used. This update coincided with the company’s growing focus on international sports car production. The changes were kept minimal to preserve brand recognition while improving visual balance.
- Design: Similar crest form with slightly refined non-sharpened shield edges
- Colors: Retained the same green, white, and red palette representing Mexican flag colors
- Changes: Wider border, modified triangular A in the typography, thicker checker elements reduced to four on each side
- Context: Rolled out as the company prepared to launch the MXT to global markets
The updated Mastretta emblem maintains the racing-inspired checker pattern while presenting a more solid and professional appearance. The wider border strengthens the overall brand image. This version of the Mastretta badge continues to communicate both national pride and motorsport heritage.
The Mastretta logo meaning remains consistent across both eras. The green, white, and red colors express the brand’s Mexican origins. The checkerboard element symbolizes its high-performance sports car focus and racing heritage. The shield shape evokes strength and connects to traditional automotive crests.
Mastretta logo history shows a deliberate evolution rather than radical redesign. Each change was made to support the company’s shift from transportation design to recognized sports car manufacturer while keeping core symbolic elements intact. The visual relationship between the two versions demonstrates continuity in brand identity.
The Mastretta car symbol today appears on official communications and materials related to the brand’s automotive design activities. Its evolution mirrors the company’s own development from a local engineering firm to an internationally recognized name in performance vehicles.
