Lanchester Logo
The Lanchester emblem is a nameplate with no picture. A long black rectangle with gently curved ends and a polished metallic frame holds the name in narrow, tall capitals. The letters are drawn with a pale fill and a dark outline so they stand out against the black. The Lanchester symbol is the name itself, and the colour scheme is black with a light metal finish.
On the 1951 Lanchester LD 10 this Lanchester badge sits on the front of the car, in the radiator grille area under the bonnet mascot. Used as the Lanchester car logo, the plaque shape is easy to recognise, and the page offers the Lanchester logo PNG with a transparent background.
Lanchester Logo History
The Lanchester logo shown here is the black and metallic nameplate, the version seen on the 1951 LD 10, one of the last cars sold under the name.
Lanchester History
The Lanchester Motor Company Limited was a British car manufacturer in active trade between 1899 and 1955. Frederick W. Lanchester is named as its founder. The company was based until early 1931 at Armourer Mills, Montgomery Street, Sparkbrook, Birmingham, and afterwards at Sandy Lane, Coventry.
It was purchased by the BSA Group at the end of 1930, and its cars were afterwards made by Daimler on Daimler’s Coventry sites. With Daimler, Lanchester became part of Jaguar Cars in 1960. Ford Motor Company bought Jaguar Cars in 1990, and Tata Motors took over Jaguar and Land Rover in 2008. In 2013 Jaguar Cars was merged with Land Rover to form Jaguar Land Rover Limited, and the rights to the Lanchester car brand passed to that company.
The Lanchester Motor Company Limited is still registered as an active company and files accounts each year, but the brand has built no cars since 1955 and was marked as non-trading in 2014.
