The Thames badge is an oval in deep blue, edged with a polished chrome rim. The name is written in a flowing white script with a slanted lettering style, and nothing else is on the badge: no crest, no extra lettering and no tagline.

The Thames emblem was fitted to the vehicles, where the chrome rim stood out against the painted body. The Thames symbol on this page is a photograph of the badge as it was mounted on a vehicle. The Thames truck logo is the version shown at the top of this page.

Thames History

Thames, also known as Ford Thames or Fordson Thames, was a commercial vehicle brand produced by Ford of Britain. The Thames name first appeared in 1939 as the Fordson Thames. Ford of Britain wanted a British brand identity and a way to tell its passenger cars apart from its commercial line, and the Thames name soon became widely used.

At first Thames was used alongside Fordson on commercial products. In 1957 the Fordson name was removed from all trucks, and the Fordson name was kept only for farm products such as tractors.

In 1965 Ford dropped the Thames name. From then on all of its commercial vehicles and trucks were sold under the Ford name.
