Lloyd Brand History

The German Lloyd automotive brand was established in 1908 as Norddeutsche Automobil und Motoren GmbH under the ownership of the Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping company. Based in Bremen, Germany, the manufacturer produced vehicles badged with the Lloyd marque for 55 years. The company ceased automobile manufacturing in 1963.

This Lloyd brand is distinct from any other entity sharing the name. The German Lloyd marque maintained complete separation from unrelated companies and had no shared ownership or history with any British manufacturer of the same period.

Lloyd Logo Evolution

The Lloyd logo remained visually stable throughout the entire period the company manufactured automobiles.

1908 – 1963: Triangle and Stripes Design

Lloyd logo

The primary visual form used by the German manufacturer was a triangle containing vertical stripes. This geometric emblem featured the brand name placed along the base and employed a consistent clean sans-serif typeface in all capital letters.

  • Design: Triangle with double outline and vertically striped interior
  • Colors: White, black, and red representing power, passion, and loyalty
  • Changes: Only minor adjustments to color palette and typeface refinement occurred
  • Context: Created under ownership of the Norddeutscher Lloyd shipping company and used continuously from founding until the company stopped producing automobiles in 1963

The Lloyd car logo maintained its core geometric composition without major redesign. Many products from the company and its successors carried this Lloyd symbol. The emblem’s consistent appearance reflected the engineering-focused heritage of the Bremen-based manufacturer.

A later alternative variant featured silver gray, blue, and red with 3D effects and glossy outlines in some representations. This Lloyd logo history demonstrates remarkable design stability across more than five decades of automotive production. The triangular Lloyd emblem continues to serve as the definitive visual identity for the German marque in automotive reference collections.
