The LIAZ symbol has no picture or shield. It is only the name, set in heavy red capitals that lean to the right, with the Z and the A cut at sharp angles. The LIAZ emblem is the wordmark itself, and the LIAZ badge on the cabs of the trucks is the same lettering. As the brand built trucks, the LIAZ truck logo is the mark seen on the front of its cabs. LIAZ Logo History

There is one design in the LIAZ logo history: the red wordmark shown above. The brand is known by this lettering, and the name itself was used as Škoda LIAZ until 1984 and as LIAZ alone afterwards.

LIAZ History

LIAZ was formed in 1951 by the government of Czechoslovakia as a division of Škoda. It brought eight other truck manufacturers together in one conglomerate. The factory site in Liberec had earlier been the Reichenberger Automobil Fabrik plant, which opened in 1907 and was bought by Laurin & Klement in 1912. In 1953 LIAZ became independent of Škoda but kept using its name, as Škoda LIAZ, until 1984. Its main truck plants stood in Liberec, Rýnovice, Mnichovo Hradiště and Jablonec nad Nisou, and later plants opened in Mělník, Zvolen, Veľký Krtíš, Přerov and Holýšov.

In the 1970s LIAZ was the largest Czechoslovak truck maker, building about 15,000 trucks a year. After the 1989 revolution it lost almost all of its sales, and a new Škoda 400 line, with the Xena and Fox models, could not reverse the decline. The Slovak company Sipox Holding bought it in 2000 but lacked the money to keep production going, and the last LIAZ vehicles were built in September 2003.

In 2006 Tedom Truck of Třebíč acquired the rights to build LIAZ trucks and produced the Fox line and modernized older models until it went into liquidation in 2010. The LIAZ brand was later bought by the Czechoslovak Group, which set up LIAZ Trucks on 22 December 2017.
