Brand Overview

Ravon was launched in 2015 by GM Uzbekistan as a value-oriented marque. The brand utilized rebadged Chevrolet and GM platforms to deliver modern, affordable cars to consumers in Uzbekistan and neighboring Central Asian countries. GM Uzbekistan itself was a joint venture between General Motors and Uzavtosanoat that succeeded the earlier Uz-Daewoo Auto Co.

The Ravon brand existed for five years before being phased out in 2020. All vehicle models were then reintegrated under the Chevrolet brand to align with General Motors global strategy. This short-lived brand represented a distinct chapter in the evolution of Uzbek automotive manufacturing that began in the early 1990s.

Historical Timeline

The roots of the Ravon brand trace back to the formation of Uz-Daewoo Auto Co. in 1992. This joint venture between Daewoo Motors and Uzavtosanoat produced models including the Nexia, Damas, and Tico.

General Motors acquired a controlling stake in Daewoo Motor in 2002. In 2005 Uzavtosanoat bought out the Daewoo share in the Uzbek joint venture, leading to the creation of the GM Uzbekistan partnership with General Motors and the introduction of updated models such as the Nexia-2.

Ravon was officially launched by GM Uzbekistan in 2015. The brand was positioned as a contemporary yet affordable option using GM-derived technology. Production and sales continued until 2020 when the decision was made to discontinue the Ravon name entirely.

Ravon Logo Evolution

2015 – 2020: Primary Logo Era

Ravon logo

The Ravon logo was introduced in 2015 to mark the launch of the new brand. This design served throughout the entire five-year period until the brand was retired in 2020. The emblem was created specifically to represent the value-oriented vehicles while maintaining a perception of GM quality.

  • Design: Stylized abstract central symbol within an elliptical shape and bold sans-serif typography spelling RAVON
  • Colors: Dominant blue paired with clean white space
  • Changes: No modifications during the short brand lifespan
  • Context: Developed to project innovation, efficiency, robustness, and forward momentum for the new marque

The Ravon car logo featured a central symbol that conveyed impressions of speed, agility, and progress. This Ravon emblem was enclosed in an elliptical frame that suggested global scope and completeness. The overall design maintained a clean, contemporary, and minimalist appearance suitable for an automotive brand.

Blue coloring was chosen for the Ravon symbol to communicate reliability and trust. The Ravon badge appeared on vehicles including the R2, Nexia R3, R4, and Gentra during the 2015-2020 period. When the brand ended, the visual identity was replaced by Chevrolet branding across the entire model lineup.

Product Line and Corporate Structure

GM Uzbekistan produced several models under the Ravon brand between 2015 and 2020. These included the Ravon R2 based on the Chevrolet Spark, the Nexia R3 derived from the Chevrolet Aveo, the Ravon R4 from the Chevrolet Cobalt, and the Gentra from the Chevrolet Lacetti. All of these vehicles were presented as modern GM platforms adapted for the regional market.

The corporate foundation rested on the long-term partnership between Uzavtosanoat, the Uzbek state automotive authority, and General Motors. This relationship began with the 1992 Uz-Daewoo venture and continued through the 2005 establishment of GM Uzbekistan that later introduced the Ravon brand. The 2020 transition returned all assets and models to the Chevrolet distribution network under GM.

Uzavtosanoat has remained the key local partner since the earliest days of vehicle production in Uzbekistan. General Motors contributed technology, platforms, and strategic alignment throughout the evolution from Uz-Daewoo to GM Uzbekistan and the brief Ravon era. This structure allowed the company to offer contemporary vehicles at accessible prices in Central Asia before the brand was consolidated back into the Chevrolet portfolio.
